The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is sometimes used as an
alternative to the Graduate Records Exam (GRE) for graduate school
admissions. It is a measure of analytical reasoning, mostly verbal with some
quantitative. An analogy is a statement suggesting that two things are
related to each other in the same way that two other things are related
to each other. The MAT analogy items are written as equations in the form
“A : B :: C : D,” which can be read as “A is to B as C is to D” or as “A is
related to B in the same way that C is related to D.”
